Stuck in pewter city.

Hello, i just started playing version 20.4 and after defeating Brock in pewter city, the youngster is still blocking the way to route 3. I watched a previous playthrough and saw that there is supposed to be a cutscene with ash defeating Brock, but I can't get that to trigger. I've restarted the game as well as restarting the playthrough to see if that was the problem.

Am I missing something?

I think that you're missing something, yes. 1st- you need to defeat brock. 2nd- go to pewter pokecenter and talk to ash. 3rd- go to the pewter gym to see ash vs brock in battle, after this, you can go to route 3. Tip: Check your Journal key item to see what you need to do, it will guide you through the game, also, quests gives you rewards.
